Per la serie: lo steampunk in fondo non mi eccita più di tanto ma è sempre meglio delle idiozie che pubblicano gli “scrittori” italiani del fantastico ed è sempre meglio del solito mattone di Stephen King che ti fa venire le lacrime agli occhi per la noia solo a guardarlo, segnalo l’uscita in Rete di Boneshaker, ultimo romanzo di Cherie Priest.

Trama:

In the early days of the Civil War, rumors of gold in the frozen Klondike brought hordes of newcomers to the Pacific Northwest. Anxious to compete, Russian prospectors commissioned inventor Leviticus Blue to create a great machine that could mine through Alaska’s ice. Thus was Dr. Blue’s Incredible Bone-Shaking Drill Engine born.
But on its first test run the Boneshaker went terribly awry, destroying several blocks of downtown Seattle and unearthing a subterranean vein of blight gas that turned anyone who breathed it into the living dead.
Now it is sixteen years later, and a wall has been built to enclose the devastated and toxic city. Just beyond it lives Blue’s widow, Briar Wilkes. Life is hard with a ruined reputation and a teenaged boy to support, but she and Ezekiel are managing. Until Ezekiel undertakes a secret crusade to rewrite history.
His quest will take him under the wall and into a city teeming with ravenous undead, air pirates, criminal overlords, and heavily armed refugees. And only Briar can bring him out alive.

Il romanzo ha avuto consenso unanime dalla critica, ed è stato apprezzato sia dagli amanti del fantasy, sia dagli amanti degli zombie. Lo leggerò e probabilmente lo recensirò, ma se ne riparla dopo Natale.

    Mi aspettavo di meglio. Non è scritto tanto bene, e neanche le idee sono incredibili come sembravano (almeno, stando a quanto letto in giro).

    Se parla anche della corsa all’oro dell ‘86 nel Klondike me lo leggo subito. Sembra interessante a prima vista

    Zombie, steampunk e corsa all’oro? Perché solo a me sembra una minchiata? °.°
    Anyway… su Wikipedia ho trovato una dichiarazione dell’autrice sull’universo in cui è ambientato il romanzo:

    “Here, it is 1880 (or thereabouts). The Civil War is still underway, drawn out by English interference, a different transportation infrastructure, and a powerful Republic of Texas that discovered oil at Spindletop some fifty years sooner than real life allowed.
    The competition of war has led to technological progress and horrors unimaginable, and many people have fled the combating states, hoping for an easier life out west.
    Some of them have found it.
    Some of have found something else.”

    Potrebbe essere interessante! La Priest ha in progetto tre romanzi all’interno di questa ambientazione, ma guarda un po’, sembra che saranno tre storie indipendenti anziché la solita trilogia alla Westerfeld. What a surprise.
